He became a demolitions officer, and was the C.O. of a company of soldiers in Vietnam. Using the educational and experiential skills he had developed, Kevin became a banker at Continental Illinois National Bank which famously was taken over by the Fed (before the current tradition was established). While there, he developed a method of moving money between banks, which was adopted by the Fed and became a national standard. He then returned to school for his MBA (Keller Graduate School of Management.) Upon receiving his degree, he entered into publishing (Rueben H. Donnelley). Kevin’s career at Donnelley was rich and successful. He was promoted to the number two position by 1983, where he developed a reputation for managing large, complex organizations and processes; and then became the COO of the Illinois Department of Revenue. There, he managed a mainframe and operating system conversion, put up Taxpayer Assistance offices across the state, rolled out personal computers to auditors, and established a lock-box process for all state revenues. A short time later, he returned to Donnelley to serve as the General Publishing Manager in Terre Haute. In 1994, Kevin left Donnelley and re-invent himself. He simultaneously started a restaurant venture What’s For Dinner? and became a stockbroker with a Series 7 license. Consulting on a financial project, he managed to save Gibault $1,000,000 annually in operating costs. Upon doing so, they hired him in 1995 to serve as a fundraiser, and manage their foundation. Then, in 1999, ISU recruited him as the Vice President for Finance and Controls. When asked how Kevin inspires others to become involved in the life of ISU he says, “Inspiration is not my strong suit, so I scare them.” But in all reality, Kevin’s passion for ISU is radiating and his loyalty is inspiring to all.
