Foundation Beneficiaries Tell Their Stories

Ashlee Hull
Sophomore
Majors:  Marketing and Business Administration
Terre Haute, IN

Scholarship Received:  Edwin Miller Scholarship
Through information shared by one of my business professors, I applied for and received a scholarship through the ISU Foundation that is a huge blessing to me and my family.  I can now focus on my classes this year instead of worrying about work hours to help pay for my tuition and books.  I also have time to explore other opportunities on campus, like volunteering as a mentor through and outreach program at a local elementary school and remaining active in the student chapter of the American Marketing Association.  And, I can continue to get first-hand experience in my major working with the University Career Center's marketing team, a job I held during the summer."

Alicia Dart
Senior
Major:  English Teaching
Oblong, IL
Scholarship Received:  Hazel T. Pfennig Scholarship

"I was named a Pfennig Scholar spring of 2007.  By receiving the scholarship, I am able to work fewer hours and concentrate on my classes more. I also have more time to participate in campus organizations: Sigma Tau Delta and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. Receiving the scholarship was not only a financial benefit but a personal one.  I feel as if my hard work in school has been recognized.
I have been employed by the ISU Foundation as a student worker since August 2006. By working for the ISU Foundation, I have been able to see first-hand the difference a scholarship can make in a student's life and how much the Foundation does for the University."

Betsy Bender
Junior
Majors:  Business Management and Spanish
Marshall, IL
Scholarship Received:  Networks Scholarship

"I'm a member of the Networks Scholarship which is provided through Networks Financial Institute and the ISU College of Business. The scholarship is a $20,000 scholarship for 4 years. It includes personal development accounts of $3,000, a laptop computer, mentors, and international experiences. So far the opportunities provided to me have been amazing, and I am very thankful to be a part of this program. I have been able to travel to Europe and New York City on a Financial Banking trip, and I also received  aid for my study abroad trip to Argentina fall of 2006. The Networks Scholarship helps us examine the financial services industry and provides an excellent opportunity."
